Travelling the World ...

… with a Camera in hand.

Who Am I

Jim Hone

In the words of Martha and the Muffins “My job is very boring I’m and office clerk”, actually this is probably not accurate as I am really the Co-owner and Director of HGL Dynamics Limited which develops a range of measurement equipment predominantly for testing Gas Turbine Engines….however...

In my spare time and when travelling for work or pleasure I invariably have my trusty Canon R5 with me along with a very battered tripod and a random selection of lenses.

As everyone said I had to have a website to show my photos off, I thought I would make it myself…so apologies if it is a bit around the edges.

I have a passion for the Red Rock parks of the US, and also for Cornwall in the UK and these feature heavily both as galleries and also more descriptive stories about some to the hikes I have undertaken.

Whilst I love being behind the camera…in front is a different thing altogether. This is as I completed Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim North to South in 2024, possibly not my best look!

Grand Canyon Rim to Rim 2024

Visiting the Colorado River at the bottom of the Grand Canyon has been an ambition for many years and despite many attempts getting accomdation at Phantom Ranch proved impossilbe to achieve, so, a Rim to Rim hike was the only solution followed by a return hike back to the car back across the canyon.

After a lot of training in the UK (Cornwall) and Bryce Canyon, three of us succeeded both directions and spent two wonderful weeks photographing Bryce, Grand Canyon North and South Rims, and then as a finale completed Angels Landing in Zion NP

Yosemite 2025

To celebrate my 60th we spent a week in beautiful Yosemite staying in the heart of the park.

During our stay we hiked the Glen Aulin Trail, 4 mile, Panorama and the Mist Trail, and Clouds Rest from Tenaya through to Curry Village.

Although it was August and most of the waterfalls were dry, it was an amazing experience that will be revisited in May 2027.

Grand Canyon Rim to Rim (ish) 2026

Following our Rim to Rim double crossing in 2024 we planned a return visit with a twist, two nights in Phantom Ranch.

However, the North Rim fire last summer put paid to a proper Rim to Rim and staying at the beautiful North Rim Lodge.

Instead we are going to try a variation with North Rim to Cottonwood and back day hike follow by South Rim to Phantom Ranch then to Ribbon Falls and Cottonwood to join up the crossing and back to South Rim.
